William, anyone who takes the MU Rec center class gets to come to Ground Zero for free any day, time, and class for the duration of the Rec center class (5 weeks). (This is only applicable to first time takers of the Rec center class.)
Combat Fitness is a strength and conditioning class geared towards combat sports competition. Anyone may take it. However, it will not be available until much more progress is made on the new facility.
If you are interested in MU BJJ please “Like” facebook.com/mubjj and for Ground Zero “Like” facebook.com/gzfshuntington and also follow on Twitter @GZFSHuntington
Couldn’t find a number anywhere for you guys so, I’ll just ask here, I’m a beginner and I’m interested in BJJ/MMA classes, what would be a good class and day to come in and check out your classes? I can make any of the classes that start after 4:00.
Ryan the best class to start out with for BJJ is the Monday 5pm beginner’s class. The Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 4pm striking class doesn’t involve any grappling at this time, but accepts any level of student.
So I’m new to this kind of thing; are the beginner’s BJJ classes the sort where you have to earn belts and advance through the ranks, or is it more similar to a self-defense class? Also, do you all do some sort of private training? Thanks
Zach, The beginner’s BJJ class will just teach you the basics of BJJ. Belts in BJJ are a lot harder to come by, but they are well earned. The wikipedia description of BJJ will help you understand. We are looking to expand the amount of beginner’s classes, but the priority is elsewhere currently. You are welcome to come in and try it out. The best time to come in and talk to someone would be a Monday beginner class or any of the 6pm classes.
Private lessons are on an instructor by instructor basis. When instructor profiles are complete they will state who is available for private lessons and how to arrange them. Thank you for your interest.
How big is the beginners BJJ class?
Mike, the beginners class has about 5 in it usually.
Thanks Benji. I’ll probably be seeing you soon.
Guys, please add some more pictures, nearly all of the ones I see show Cameron just KICKING my ass. Let someone else share the torture. ;)
Gary I’m working on it. I’ll get you taken care of.
Is it too late to sign up for the beginner class at the Rec Center? I would also like to do some other classes at the gym when my schedule permits it. Are private lessons available at all? Thank you for the help.
Tyler, yes you can still sign up at the Rec center.
Private lessons are available! Send me an email at benjipyles@gmail.com
Very nice seeing the mats fuller lately. Several new faces as well as regulars showing up more frequently. Mat time is key !!!
Yes it is Gary!
Wednesday has MMA striking too same time and deal. 4:30-5:50
Hey guys, just wanted to say sorry for my absence recently. Up to my neck in school work. See you all friday at striking and open mat.
Gabe, that’s unacceptable. You should be up to your neck in OUR school work. Why do you value Marshall education over Martial education? Should we charge you thousands of dollars per semester to study at GZ? We can give you a neat piece of paper once you achieve blue belt if you like. We can call it an “Associates degree in Jiu-jitsu” from Ground Zero University.
;)
